This season, there were three members of Madrid’s first-team group – Luka Modric, Lucas Vázquez and Sergio Ramos – whose contract was scheduled to run out this summer. Modric, who will be 36 in September, has penned a one-year extension and is set to move into the top-10 oldest players to wear the Real Madrid shirt during the coming campaign. Currently, 10th place is occupied by Chendo, whose last appearance for the club, in February 1998, came at the age of 36 years and 113 days.

Vázquez, 29, has extended his Madrid contract by three years, agreeing an improved pay packet as part of his new terms. However, that wage increase is temporarily on hold as Los Merengues deal with the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The only player who remains out of contract at Real Madrid this summer is club captain Ramos, whose negotiations with the club have completely broken down.
